Student Privacy

Last updated: October 24, 2026

MyMathLearning is a program of Divide and Conquer Math Institute ("we," "us," or "our"), which operates the website and service at MyMathLearning.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

FERPA Compliance

MyMathLearning is designed to be used by schools and districts as a school-supplied educational tool. Student records — names, class enrollment, and assessment results — are treated as "education records" under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We act as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest: we receive, use, and protect student data only to provide the service the school has directed us to perform. We do not disclose personally identifiable information from education records to outside parties without school authorization, except as required by law. Parents and eligible students may direct FERPA-related requests to their school, or to us at support@mymathlearning.com.

COPPA Compliance

MyMathLearning is intended for middle school classrooms (grades 6–8) and is used under school supervision. For students under 13, we collect only the limited personal information described in this policy (name, email or Google profile, and learning data), and only with the consent of a parent, legal guardian, or authorized school. We do not condition a student's participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary to use the Service. Student data is used solely for the educational purpose of running the classroom — completing warm-ups, tracking progress, and letting the teacher review work. We do not use student data to create personal profiles for targeted advertising, and we do not sell student data. A parent, guardian, or school administrator may review, correct, or delete a student's data by contacting us at support@mymathlearning.com.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Name: the display name you provide at registration, used to greet you and to attribute your work to your class.
  • Email address: used to create your account, sign you in, send service notices, and recover your password.
  • Google account profile information: when you choose "Continue with Google," we receive your Google basic profile (name, email, and profile picture) from Google. We use this information only to create and sign in to your MyMathLearning account.
  • Learning progress: warm-ups started and completed, current level, XP, streaks, badges, and daily goals.
  • Quiz and assessment results: answers you submit to warm-ups, quizzes, and tests, the scores we assign, and any teacher feedback.
  • Classroom records: class names, join codes, and enrollment records that connect students to teachers.
  • Drawing and free-response content: any drawings or written explanations you submit as part of a question.
  • Handwritten-work photos: if your teacher uses the handwritten-work analysis tool, a photo of your handwritten math work that you upload. The upload itself is free; the AI analysis runs only when your teacher chooses to analyze it.
  • Camera access and bubble-sheet (scantron) photos: the bubble-sheet grading tools and the handwriting tools use your device's camera or photo library, and only after you tap the capture or choose-photo button — we never open the camera on our own, and nothing else in the app uses it. Bubble-sheet grading happens entirely in your browser: the photo of the sheet is never uploaded to us, never stored, and never sent to any AI service, and only the answers the app reads from it and the resulting score are saved to the student's record. Handwritten-work photos are the exception — those are uploaded on purpose so the teacher can review and analyze them, as described in the bullet above.
  • Limited usage data: device type and browser, collected for security and fraud prevention. We do not track your location.
  • Standardized math assessment scores (Star Math, CMAS, Illuminate, i-Ready, MAP, or another state test): if your teacher imports an assessment export, which test it was, how the score reads, your score, percentile, performance level, and test date are saved. The teacher uploads the file and it is parsed in their browser; the file itself is never uploaded to us or sent to any AI service, and your name from the CSV is never stored. Only your teacher, their co-teachers, and site admins can see these scores — students and parents cannot. Scores are used to suggest small-group intervention support for the teacher; they are kept until the teacher deletes them, which they can do at any time (per student, per test date, or for the whole class) from the Import Assessment Scores page.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to operate the Service:

  • Name and email — to create and identify your account and to communicate with you about the Service.
  • Google profile data — used only to sign you in and create your account. We do not use your Google data to personalize advertising or for any other purpose.
  • Learning progress — to display your level, XP, streaks, and badges, and to recommend the next warm-up.
  • Quiz and assessment results — to grade your work, show your score, and let your teacher review and give feedback.
  • Classroom records — to connect you to the right class and to let your teacher manage assignments.
  • Usage data — to protect the Service against abuse, cheating, and unauthorized access.

3. Google User Data

When you sign in with Google, we request only the basic profile scopes needed to identify you (name, email, and profile picture). Google user data is used only to sign you in and run the app — for example, to create your account and display your name. We do not use your Google data for advertising, and we do not transfer it to any third party except the hosting and service providers that help us operate the Service, as described below. You can revoke our access to your Google account at any time from your Google account security settings.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • between a student and the teacher of a class the student is enrolled in, so the teacher can assign and review work;
  • with hosting and service providers that help us run the Service (for example, our hosting platform and email delivery), under contracts that require them to keep your data confidential and use it only to provide us those services;
  • with our AI sub-processors, but only as described in Section 9 below;
  • when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users and the Service.

We never share your data with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes.

5. Data Retention

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, or if a parent, guardian, or school administrator requests deletion of a student's data, we delete the associated personal information (account, progress, answers, and class records) within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it longer. Aggregated, de-identified statistics may be retained indefinitely because they can no longer identify you.

6. Your Rights and Deletion Requests

You can delete your account yourself at any time, without contacting us: sign in, open your account menu (your name or avatar in the top-right corner), choose Delete Account, and confirm. That removes your account and the records tied to it immediately, and it cannot be undone. Full instructions, what is deleted, what we keep, and how a parent, guardian, or school administrator can request deletion on a student's behalf are on our Delete Your Account page.

You can also request access to, a copy of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing us at support@mymathlearning.com from the address on your account. Students under 13 should ask a parent, guardian, or teacher to make the request on their behalf. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.

7. Data Security

We protect your data with industry-standard practices. Access to personal data is restricted by role: teachers can only see the classes and submissions for students enrolled in their own classes, and students can only see their own progress and answers. Passwords are never stored in plain text, and all data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to safeguard your information.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is designed for middle school classrooms (grades 6–8) and is intended to be used under school supervision. For students under 13, we collect only the limited information described above (name, email or Google profile, and learning data) and only with the consent of a parent, legal guardian, or authorized school. Student data is used solely for the educational purpose of running the classroom — completing warm-ups, tracking progress, and letting the teacher review work. We do not collect more information than is necessary, and we do not use student data for advertising or profiling. A parent, guardian, or school administrator may review, correct, or delete a student's data by contacting us at support@mymathlearning.com.

9. Third-Party Services & AI Processing

The Service uses Google Sign-In for authentication. Google's handling of your data during sign-in is governed by Google's Privacy Policy, which we encourage you to review. Links to external learning tools listed in the Service are provided for convenience; those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their practices.

We use third-party AI language-model providers to power specific features. We act as the controller of student data and the providers act as our sub-processors. There are two separate paths:

  • Socratic hints (student-initiated): when a student uses this optional tool, only the teacher-authored question text is sent to Google's free-tier Gemini model — the student's typed answer is never sent, so no student data leaves the app. A teacher must enable the Socratic tutor for a student before it's available. Google's free-tier terms may allow product improvement on submitted content, which is why only teacher-authored content (not student work) is sent there.
  • Handwritten-work analysis (teacher-initiated): when a teacher clicks Analyze on a student's uploaded work photo, that photo and the student's handwriting legend are sent to a paid AI provider operating on a no-training tier — one whose terms do not allow training on customer-submitted data. Student work is never sent to a free model tier. No student name, email, or other identifier is included, and the student's upload itself never calls the model. When a district reads work with its own reader service, the photos go only to that service, in a signed request that carries the image itself and no student identifiers; if that service is unavailable the work waits in a queue for it and is not sent anywhere else unless the district has explicitly allowed the platform reader as a backup. The analysis is stored on the student's submission record, visible to the student and their teacher.
  • Teacher-only AI (warm-up, quiz, and worksheet generators, and handwritten-warmup conversion): these run on free-tier Google Gemini. No student data is sent to this path — only the teacher's own prompts, uploaded files, and handwriting legend. Google's free-tier terms may allow product improvement, which is why student data is never routed here.

We do not use student work to train our own models. We are happy to share the relevant provider terms during your review. See our AI Use & Transparency page for a feature-by-feature breakdown of what each tool sends and stores.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be noted on the Service or sent to the email on your account.
